Glass Studio Featured on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
|
On May 6th, an episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" was aired that
featured the East Falls Glassworks team. This was the second time that the
EFG glass blowing team was featured on the show; the team made a
glass kite chandelier for the Py family for an episode
that initially aired April 30, 2006. The show aired May 6th featured a house
in Levittown, PA and the Kilgallon family.
May 12th, 2007 - Share in the Excitement
East Falls Glassworks is holding a special open house and benefit auction to
celebrate our involvement with the show. You can join us for a day of free
glassblowing demonstrations as well as a chance to buy some amazing art at bargain
prices in the auction. Check out the
EFG Home Page for more information about
this and other happenings at the studio.
Group Effort to Complete Project
It is exciting to be involved with an Emmy-winning reality program, particularly
when they ask us back for a second time. Adding to the excitement was the timeline;
it was even shorter and the project was even more ambitious. An elaborate glass and
wrought iron chandelier was constructed over three very long days. Preston Sharp, Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition design team member, conceptualized the chandelier and Owen Pach
brought the concept into an executable design and coordinated fabrication and installation.
Hard work by the talented team at East Falls Glassworks made an outstanding final result
that is the focal point of the Extreme Makeover house. The EFG team for the project
was Owen Pach (Project Coordinator), George-Ann Greth (Glass/Metal Fabrication), Phil Vinson
(Glass/Metal Fabrication), Patrick Africa (General Assistance) and Jon Goldberg (Glass Blowing).
Owen and Jon had the first meeting with Preston Sharp on Saturday evening, and the team
worked straight through until Wednesday morning just before the reveal. The studio thanks
Preston Sharp, the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition producers and Phil, George and Patrick who
were able to drop everything to make this project a reality. There is great and diverse
talent in the Philadelphia glass community and we are extremely lucky to be part of that
community.

Helping *AND* Sharing the Tradition of Glass
Working with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is satisfying on many different levels. Not only are we able to
help a deserving family, but also we are able to share our enthusiasm for glassblowing with the public. There are
many glass studios continuing to make work as part of a centuries old tradition. It is really exciting to spotlight
this art form for a large audience who may not be aware of the vibrant glass art scene.
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" Inspired Work
East Falls Glassworks is designing a special series of work inspired by the projects we completed for the show.
Contact us for more information about this work. If you would like
a similar chandelier or something that exists only in your imagination, please give us a call. We do lots of
custom glass commissions and special work in cooperation with architects or designers.
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA. The series is executive-produced by Tom Forman. The show airs Sundays (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET), on the ABC Television Network.
